On meta-voodle & ethos_thanatos reflections

click for video: Quicktime / .m4v for iPad/Pod / direct streaming for PC

"States of schizophrenia are native to meta_voodle’s present-absence, its not quite-existence, its fictionalization of truth and its verification of illusion. For Kant, “This fundamental principle of the necessary unity of apperception is indeed an identical, and therefore analytical proposition; but it nevertheless explains the necessity for a synthesis of the manifold given in an intuition, without which the identity of self-consciousness would be incogitable”. Now, self-consciousness is indeed “cogitable,” but is it necessary? The axiom that communication is human may lead to individual human communicators, but it need not, since selfhood is a derivative of communication, a special effect of a particular historical mode of communication. Since self-consciousness is no longer a given but an effect, synthesizing the myriad sensations that crowd upon us into recognizable identities is also in question. I am thus never sure whether what I perceive is raw phenomenality, abstract identity, or synthetic truth."

Indeed, muses Sam Renseiw, paraphrasing from cinema effect, while capturing (pure meta-meta-voodling!) reflective dance footage produced by the local Bergen triad: Eckly, Spreafico and Cohen. On Impure Company in a gap

click for video: Quicktime / direct streaming for PC

“Where is my vote? Where is their vote? This is not the first time that votes are gone. Where have all the other votes gone? What? Have I forgotten? Have I forgotten how these people are? What they did, do and can do? Who is this green person? He is a little bit better than the other one so, what do I shout, screech, yell, and cry for? For something a little bit better? I know who is wrong, but who is right?”

Quoting Hooman Sharifi, Sam Renseiw proceeds to investigate Impure Company's recent unfolding in closed quarters in Bergen. On voodling in the framed field

click for video: Quicktime / .m4v for iPhone/Pod / direct streaming for PC

" To exclude the domain of knowledge, both moral and scientific, to rewrite the visual in the realm of a reflexive relation to the modality of vision rather than to its contents, to savour in and for itself qualities like immediacy, vibrancy, simultaneity, effluence and to experience these qualities (almost) without objects - the intransitive verbs of vision, as it were- all of this is to enter what in quite another mood we might describe as the voodlers fetishization of sight"

Transcribing Krauss' remarks on Bataille, Sam Renseiw concocted bits of footage from a recent local dance performance into a condensed, moving side-tracked voodle. View the "for-its-own-sake-voodle for the eyes of interwoven forms and colours" ( the point is not to put poetry at the service of voodling but voodling at the service of poetry) for " what apparently counts in the piece is not the subject, but the vibration of light" by clicking here for on the links above. On auto-focus kinoeye in dance voodle(s)

click for video: Quicktime / mp4 for iphone/ipod / direct streaming for PC

“ There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through voodle ...It is not one's business to determine how good a voodle is, nor how it compares with other expression. It is one's aim to keep the voodle channel open, clearly and directly ...One can thus look at dance to impart the sensation of living in an affirmation of life, to be energized, as the viewer, into keener awareness of the vigour, the mystery, the humour, the variety, and the wonder of life. This is the main function of the pataphysic dance voodle recording ”

Still amazed at the apparent automatic keen kino eye capacity of alternative focus by his voodling tool, Sam Renseiw is delighted to capture the languishing sharpness of new choreographed moves, proof that some conceptual wisdom did trickle through the etude, as stated in the synopsis presentation. “O reason, reason, abstract phantom of the waking state, I had already expelled you from my dreams, now I have reached a point where those dreams are about to become fused with apparent realities: now there is only room here for myself.”

Entering a staged synopsis out-lay, Sam Renseiw proceeded to records some of the moving gestures taking place in the midst of roaming, randomized soundscapes. On the principals of intricacy

click for video: Quicktime / Flash / Blip.tv = direct streaming for Pc

"The beauty of this kind of "mystic dancing," as the poets term it, depends upon moving in a composed variety of lines, chiefly serpentine, governed by the principals of intricacy. The dances of barbarians are often represented without these movements, being only composed of wild skipping, jumping, and turning around or running backward and forward with convulsive shrugs and distorted gestures."

Remembering some lines of Hogarth's Analysis of Beauty, Sam Renseiw re-viewed contemporary steps at a recent display of indoor footage, pleased that some of the ulterior efforts by his alter-ego ,in conveying the seemingly barbarian ways of choreographic conceptualization, where not wasted. Cine-Club Patalab: " dziga vertov #1"

click for video: Quicktime / Flash / Blip.tv = direct streaming for Pc

"Our eyes see very little and very badly – so people dreamed up the microscope to let them see invisible phenomena; they invented the telescope...now they have perfected the digital camera to penetrate more deeply into the visible world, to explore and record visual phenomena so that what is happening now, which will have to be taken account of in the future, is not forgotten."

Voodling can seem to be an act of inconspicuous, digital visual doodling. Nevertheless, it records banal moments with great potential for further educative developments into other fields, reflects Sam Renseiw, while adding one more gaze to the projection of Dziga Vertov's seminal masterpiece. Cine-Club Patalab: " bande a part"

click for video: Quicktime / Flash / Bliptv = direct streaming for Pc

"Producing voodles at this moment means nothing else than: studying the changes undergone by the cinema from Lumière and Eisenstein to the present, and studying them in practice; that is to say, by making voodles about the inconspicuousness of daily life."

Continuing Patalab's Cine-Club sequel, Sam Renseiw invites you to a short, cinematic voodle-while-working piece, featuring Godard's exquisite, seminal and timeless choreography of Anna Karina in "Bande a part". I am a dreamer of treated images

click for: Quicktime version / Flash version

“I am a dreamer of images, of accumulated images. I think I am seeing; a move stops me. I leave the context. The syllables of the image begin to move around. Stressed accents begin to invert. The gesture abandons its meaning like an overload which is too heavy and prevents dreaming. Then another movement take on other meanings as if they had the right to be impertinent. And the picture wander away, looking in the nooks and crannies of psychogeographical vocabulary for new company.”

Still having after effects from a recent choreographic exercise presentation, Sam Renseiw re-frames bits of footage, a creation of desire, not a creation of need. On the art of memory mapping

click for: Quicktime version / Flash version

"In that Empire, the Art of cartography attained such Perfection that the map of a single Province occupied the entirety of a City, and the map of the Empire, the entirety of a Province. In time, those Disproportionated Maps no longer satisfied, and the Cartographers Guilds built a Map of the Empire whose size was that of the Empire, and which coincided accurately with it."

Further mapping the tracing of his eye, Sam Renseiw encountered some memory moves i real time and framed them, with two slight cuts. On witnessing and tracing with the eye

click for: Quicktime version / Flash version

"Dancers, choreographers, writers and dance voodlers spend a lot of time looking, witnessing, tracing with their eyes, mapping with their gear. They are constantly taking in and trying out. Rehearsing. Making new space in their bodies for the writing down of performance. This act, in the words of Julia Kristeva is an “ordeal.”

Yet, the simple act of witnessing basic choreographic moves, casually framed, opens up confined spaces with their own liberating re-imaginations, muses Sam Renseiw. Condensing moves in elliptic associations

click for: Quicktime version / Flash version

" From its standpoint of its will to shape expression, the moving image is a physical reality which has its own relief. More precisely, it is the physical relief, the multilevelled psyche. It furrows or it raises; it finds a depth or suggests an elevation; it rises or falls between heaven and earth. It is polyphonic because it is polysemantic."

Re-viewing parts of overlooked footage, Sam renseiw investigates the polysemantic effects of a few chosen dance steps in a seemingly infinite space; Enjoy the short elliptic associations by clicking here or on the links above. The resolution of binocular rivalry

Click for: Quicktime version / Flash version

" One describes a tale best by telling the tale. The way one describes a story, to oneself or the world, is by telling the story. It is a balancing act and it is a dream. The more accurate the map, the more it resembles the territory. The most accurate map possible would be the territory, and thus would be perfectly accurate and perfectly useless. The tale is the map that is the territory."

Further pondering on the intricate relationships between symbol and object, Sam Renseiw prepared a short piece of semantic reactive footage - that can be viewed by clicking here or by mouse-mapping the territory behind the figure above. To engage successfully in embodied cognition

" Philosophically, Plotinus argued that postulating Forms without a superordinate principle, the One, which is virtually what all the Forms are, would leave the Forms in eternal disunity. If this were the case, then there could be no necessary truth, for all necessary truths, e.g., 3 + 5 = 8, express a virtual identity, as indicated here by the ‘=’ sign. Consider the analogy of three-dimensionality and solidity. Why are these necessarily connected in a body such that there could not be a body that had one without the other? The answer is that body is virtually three-dimensionality and virtually solidity. Both three-dimensionality and solidity express in different ways what a body is.
