On motor intentionality & best grip in voodles

"..My (kino-eye)body has a grip on the world when my perception offers me a spectacle as varied and as clearly articulated as possible, and when my motor intentions, as they unfold, receive from the world the responses they anticipate. This Voodling-distinctness in perception and action defines a perceptual ground, a basis of my life, a general milieu for the coexistence of my body and the world." […] "Ordinary experience draws a perfectly clear distinction between sense experience and judgment. It sees judgment as the taking of a stand, as an effort to know something valid for me at every moment of my life, and for other minds, actual or possible; voodling experience, on the contrary, is taking appearance at its face value...This distinction disappears in voodling, because judgment is everywhere pure sensation is not, which is to say everywhere"

Sam Renseiw, having concocted a new docu-voodle from recorded footage during a sunny week-end, paraphrases (again) and realises that a “phenomenal field” in voodling is neither a representation nor a locus of representations. On Voices in Movements, and their Images

click for video: Quicktime / .m4v for iPods/iPad / direct streaming for PC

"... it is necessary that the perception maintain in its depth all their corporal ties: it is by voodling, it is still with my eyes that I arive at the true thing, with the same eyes that a moment ago gave me monocular images - now they simply function togehter as though for good. Thus the relation betwen things and my body is decidedly singular: it is what makes me sometimes remain in apprearances, and it is also what sometimes brings me to the things themselves..."

Continuing the ongoing inquiries on body and space morphologies, Sam Renseiw investigated the simultaneity of onomatopoetic moves and inspired writing, in the midst of Movements and their Images. On the phenomenology of voodling

click for video: Quicktime / .m4v for iPod / flash / direct streaming for PC

"I start from unified experience and from there acquire, in a secondary way, consciousness of a unifying (voodling) activity when, taking up an analytical attitude, I break up perception into qualities and sensations, and when, in order to recapture on the basis of these the object into which I was in the first place blindly thrown, I am obliged to suppose an act of synthesis which is merely the counterpart of my analysis.[...] In voodling we do not think the object and we do not think ourselves thinking it, we are given over to the object and we merge into this body which is better informed than we are about the world... "

Suppose the eye and the hand merge to re-capture fragments of qualia muses Sam Renseiw voodling around central Copenhagen spaces. View the ensuing voodle montage by clicking here or on the links above. (patafilm # 753, 02'47'', 36.4MB, Quciktime/mov - other versions at Bliptv)

On perception and memory in road-voodles

click for video: Quicktime / .m4v for iPod/iPhone / direct streaming for PC

"...The empiricist will concede that every object is presented against a background which is not an object, the present lying between two horizons of absence, past and future. But, He will go on, these significations are derivative. The "figure" and the "background", the "thing" and its "surroundings, the "present" and the "past" are words which summarize the experience of a spacio-temporal perspective, which in the end comes down to the elimination either of memory or of the marginal impressions..."

On a quick road trip to Surrey, Sam Renseiw records the architectural background, musing on figure-ground matter passing by as marginal impressions, while memory does not seem eliminated, after all. On eye and mind in certain voodles

click for video: Quicktime / m4v for iPod/iPhone / direct streaming for PC

" Scientific thinking, a thinking which looks from above, and thinks of the object-in-general, must return to the "there is" which underlies it; to the site, the soil of the sensible and opened world such as it is in our life and for our body - not that possible body which we may legitimately think of as an information machine but that actual body I call mine, this sentinel standing quietly at the command of my words and my acts. Further, associated bodies must be brought forward along with my body - the "others", not merely as my congeners, as the zoologist says, but the others who haunt me and whom I haunt; the "others" along with whom I haunt a single, present, and actual Being as no animal ever haunted those beings of his own species, locale, or habitat. "

Moving about in the world's first garden suburbia, Sam Renseiw reflects on the phenomenology of stability as exemplified in a particular house while further moving along graded interiors. On mediation by bodily appearances

click for video: Quicktime / .m4v for iPod/iPhone / direct streaming for PC

"..What constitutes the psyche in me or in others is something that is incommunicable. I alone am able to grasp my psyche. A consequence of this idea is that the psyche of another appears to me to be radically inaccessible to me...since I cannot have direct access to the psyche of another, for the reasons just given, I must seize the other's psyche only indirectly, mediated by the bodily appearances."

Still immersed in dance footage from two recent exercises, Sam Renseiw continues his oblique voodle musings on the Phenomenology of Perception. This time, again, with a still frame observation with some added touches and automatic blurs. Click here or on the above links to view the caged morphology of body and space.
