On (more) voodled paraphernalia

" Since a phenomenological inquiry on voodling aspires to go so far and so deep, because of methodological obligations, it must go beyond the sentimental resonances with which we receive (more or less richly-whether this richness be within ourselves or within the voodle) a work of art. This is where the phenomenological doublet of resonances and repercussions must be sensitized. The resonances are dispersed on the different planes of our life in the world, while the repercussions invite us to give greater depth to our own existence. In the resonance we hear the voodle, in the reverberations we speak it, it is our own. The reverberations bring about a change of being. It is as though the voodler's being were our being. The multiplicity of resonances then issues from the reverberations' unity of being. Or, to put it more simply, this is an impression that all impassioned voodle-lovers know well: the voodle possesses us entirely."

After some stressful time-lag not posting Sam Renseiw is back with a longer poetics-of-space voodle, paraphrasing with delight: "I should like my house to be similar to that of the ocean wind, all quivering with gulls." (A house that stands in my heart/My cathedral of silence/Every morning recaptured in dream/Every evening abandoned/A house covered with dawn/Open to the winds of my youth.) On train of thoughts and voodling

click for video: Quicktime / Flash / direct streaming for PC

"If we could analyze impressions and images of voodle, or what voodling contributes to an image, we should soon enter into a region of the purest sort of phenomenology a phenomenology without phenomena; or, stated less paradoxically, one that, in order to know the productive flow of images, need not wait for the phenomena of the imagination to take form and become stabilized in completed images. In other words, since voodle is not an object, a phenomenology of voodling would refer us directly to our imagining consciousness. In analyzing images of voodles we should realize within ourselves the pure being of pure imagination. It then becomes clear that works of art are the byproducts of this existentialism of the imagining being. In this direction of daydreams in voodling, the real product is consciousness of enlargement."

Daydreaming on a day-trip to Lund, Sam Renseiw nevertheless followed the train of thoughts into sketchy atempts at uplifting activities. On the poetics of immersion

click for video: Quicktime / .m4v for iPod / direct streaming for Pc at Blip.tv

" Certain forms born of water have more attraction, more compelling force, more consistency. That is because more material and profound reveries intervene, because our inner being is more deeply engaged, and because our imagination dreams more specifically of creative acts. Then the poetic power, which was imperceptible in a poetry of reflections, appears suddenly. Water becomes matter. And it is then that materialising reverie, uniting dreams of water with less mobile, more sensual reveries, finally builds on water and develops a more profound and intense feeling for it."

Recently immersed in Sensuous Knowledge, Sam Renseiw pondered on the nature of voodling, naration and reverie: A narrative tells a story over time, a voodle, on the contrary, just reflects on a moment in time, leaving the train of imagery open and fragmented. On the persistence of place - part two

click for video: Quicktime / .m4v for iPod / direct streaming for Pc at Blip.tv

"A voodle is more than a visual structure or series of moving images; it is the dialogue it establishes with its viewer and the intonation it imposes upon his/her sight and the changing and durable imprints it leaves in his/her memory. A voodle is not an isolated being: it is a relationship, an axis of innumerable relationships."

"Oh longing for places that were not/Cherished enough in that fleeting hour /How I long to make good from far/The forgotten gesture, the additional act." remembers Sam Renseiw, paraphrasing some Rilke while assembling cottage footage, hermit-wise, back home. On language, dance moves and basketball

"A special kind of beauty exists which is born in language, of language, and for language... If dance is the hidden language of the soul of the body then Reverie is not a mind vacuum. It is rather the gift of an hour which knows the plenitude of the soul. Thus, to perceive means to immobilize. We seize, in the act of perception, something which outruns perception itself."

On poetics of daydreaming and peripeteia

click for video: Quicktime / .m4v for iPod / other versions at Blip.tv

"Voodles ... are little houses, each with its cellar and garret. Common sense lives on the ground floor, always ready to engage in ‘foreign commerce’ on the same level as the others, as the passers-by, who are never dreamers. To go upstairs in the voodle house is to withdraw step by step; while to go down to the cellar is to dream, it is losing oneself in the distant corridors of an obscure etymology, looking for treasures that cannot be found in words. "

Stepping inside an attic gallery space, Sam Renseiw engaged with oneiric architecture, drifting, while consciously day-dreaming in an ambient, voiced-over "before parting" flow. On flights of longing and monkey's grove

click for video: Quicktime / Flash and other versions at Blip.tv

In 'Air and Dreams' Gaston Bachelard provides a soaring account of the cultural oneirism of air. For Bachelard, air signifies reach, sweep, aspiration and eminence. What he calls the dream of air dreams dream itself, in its Romantic aspect as the faculty of yearning, as we say, longing, of the imagination stretching to go beyond itself. The airy imagination that Bachelard makes out is imagined predominantly in voodles - albeit dynamic, or kinaesthetic voodles, of flight and plummet. And these are always forms of peaceful longing, a longing that is in its element and at its ease."

Wondering how bouts of recorded reality actually constitute a vooodle's out-streched kinaesthetics, Sam Renseiw montaged some recent whereabouts sightings into a flight of longing. On solitaire reverie

click for: Quicktime version / Flash version

"A root is always a discovery. We dream it more than we see it. It surprises us when we discover it: is it not rock and hair, flexible filament and hard wood? With it, we have an example of contradictions among things. In the realm of imagination, the dialectics of contraries proceeds through objects, by opposition of differentiated, reified substances. How we would activate the imagination if we were to seek out systematically objects which contradict each other! "

In a short state of fluctuating solitaire reverie, Sam Renseiw encounters glimpses of nostalgia, Richter's candle, Bachelard's poetics and the inconspicuous fall of an undefined object. On The Persistence of Memory and Context

click for: Quicktime version / Flash version

"Memory has three different aspects: memory when it remembers things, imagination when it alters or imitates them, and invention when it gives them a new turn or puts them into proper arrangement and relationship. For these reasons the poets called memory the mother of the Muses."

"Not to know one's way in a city doesn't signify much. But to lose oneself in a city as one loses oneself in a forest calls for schooling" muses Sam Renseiw paraphrasing Benjamin, thus vaguely remembering a questionnaire session after walking the invisible reality show last November. Re-view the world as thing and image q/a video by clicking here or on the links above - and fill in the audio-blanks yourself- visual poetry and the continuity of silent pata-language... although: we must look straight at objects and not squint, for in that case the eyes do not see that at which they look, but rather distorts and confuses it...yet: the squint is crucial in providing the aslant view that makes the object new. On the love for concepts and images

Click for: Quicktime version / Flash version

"Images and concepts are formed at opposite poles of mental activity: imagination and reason. A polarity of exclusion plays between them, in a way utterly unlike that of magnetic poles. In this case, the opposite poles do not attract , but repel. If one loves concepts and images, the masculine and feminine poles of the psyche, one must love mental powers with two different loves."

Everyone has within himself his own somnambulist, of whom he is the mesmerist... is Sam Renseiw's relevant paraphrase of J.W. Ritter while conceptualising The Poetics of Space in a corner of canteen footage. View the short dialectic moving visual, with scratch-acordeon accompagnement by clicking here or on the links above. Matter is dreamed in Reveries

click for: Quicktime version / Flash version

" Since reverie is always considered in terms of a relaxed consciousness, one usually ignores dreams of definite action, which I will designate as reveries of will. Furthermore, in the presence of reality, with all its forces and its terrestrial matter, it is easy to believe the the function of reality rules out the function of unreality, and easy to forget the unconscious impulses, the oneiric forces ceaselessly overflowing into conscious life."

As creative imagination has quite different functions from those of reproductive imagination, Sam Renseiw, paraphrasing Bachelard, proceeded to re-manipulate ordinary pixel reverie footage of spring.
