On detournement of re-enactments

click for video : Quicktime / .m4v for Ipod/iPhone / direct streaming for PC

"Re-enactment is a phenomenon which has gained a footing in visual art in recent years. In this practice, historical material or material which already exists is reenacted. We know the genre from amateur actors’ staged reconstructions of dramatic historical events, battles or other acts of war. A re-enactment in art is not just a repetition of a given historical event, but also involves a re-evaluation of the historical occurrence in question, and also making it topical. The form is dependent on personal involvement and interaction, which means going beyond the precise or authoritative version of the story."

After performing a recent Reality Check, Sam Renseiw edited the gathered footage into a meta-re-enactment. View the detournement including two new layers by clicking here or on the links above. ( patafilm # 651, 02'54'' 18MB, Quicktime/mov - other versions at Blip.tv)

On poetics of daydreaming and peripeteia

"Voodles ... are little houses, each with its cellar and garret. Common sense lives on the ground floor, always ready to engage in ‘foreign commerce’ on the same level as the others, as the passers-by, who are never dreamers. To go upstairs in the voodle house is to withdraw step by step; while to go down to the cellar is to dream, it is losing oneself in the distant corridors of an obscure etymology, looking for treasures that cannot be found in words. "

Stepping inside an attic gallery space, Sam Renseiw engaged with oneiric architecture, drifting, while consciously day-dreaming in an ambient, voiced-over "before parting" flow. Today's Bonus Lumiere Video features a more prosaic architectural view from last autumn; a rare prospect, as the back facade of the station is being replaced by a new one these days. (Lum # 90 "fast and slow" 00'54'', 5.8MB, Quicktime/mov)

Today's Patalab Metaphor Video re-play-supplement features an antique garden voodle - before the patafilm taxonomy and the voodle neologism, thus antique in web 2.0 terms - (backdated patafilm # 53, 01'24''[11.11.2005 post]6.4 MB, Quicktime/mov) Click on the bold links in the text to view or for more oblique, didactic info.

The detournement of space: Voodle # 01

"Lefebvre points out that the single point perspective and visualisation are ideological constructs which define the perception of space and of bodies within it; and it is through these spatial relationships that subjectivities, or notions about individual actions and discourses and the individual’s understanding of his/her own experience, are constructed or socially agreed/imposed upon. Voodles and architecture can organise space following a logic of perspectival visualisation but they can also disrupt this logic by creating ‘in–between’ spaces ."

Exploring the nature of ‘in-between’, hybrid space(s) with pataphysical detournements, Sam Renseiw gathered footage to voodle for the next 3 posts. View the first one, from an abandoned church overhanging a cliff, by clicking here or on the links above.
