On mapping inter-locked spaces

"The voodler is a forger/He forges so thoroughly/That he even forges the pain/He really feels as pain//Those who watch what he voodles/Feel truly, seeing pain,/Not the two he had, but only/The one they do not have//And thus along the rails,/To stall the reason/Runs that wind-up train/They call the heart."

After a week-end filled with a multitpude of collected footage bits from highly active active procrastination, Sam Renseiw, overwhelmed yet serene, concocted a longer disquiet-docu-voodle for this post. On spatial occurrences in voodles

click for video: Quicktime / .m4v for iPod/iPhone / direct streaming for PC

" After I've slept many dreams, I go out to the street with eyes wide open but still with the aura and assurance of my dreams. I'm astonished by my automatism, which prevents others from really knowing me. For i go through daily life still holding the hand of my astral nursemaid; my steps are in perfect accord with the obscure designs of my sleeping mind. And I walk in the right direction; i don't stagger; I react well; I exist. [...] And it is then, in the middle of life's bustle, that my dream becomes a marvellous voodle. I walk along an unreal downtown street, and the reality of its non-existent lives affectionately wraps my head in a white cloth of false memories. I'm a navigator engaged in unknowing myself."

Paraphrasing Pessoa, Sam Renseiw begins to share the quiet anxiety of compulsive production while uploading yet another voodle. On the perils of thinking

click for: Quicktime version / Flash version video

" One of the perils of thinking is to see while thinking. Those who think with their reason are distracted. Those who think with their emotion are sleeping. Those who think with their desires are dead. I, However, think with my imagination, and all reason, sorrow and impulse in me are reduced to something remote and irrelevant, like this merry-go-round where the last light of the sun unlastingly hovers..." Further pursuing his voodling passion, Sam Renseiw got caught in a carousel swirll, rescuing imaginative footage nevertheless. On Graffitti and voodling

click for: Quicktime version / Flash version

" It is a rule of life that we can, and should, learn from everyone. There are solemn and serious things we can learn from quacks and crooks, there are philosophies taught to us by fools, there are lessons in faithfulness and justice brought to us by chance and by those we chance to meet. Everything is in everything. In certain particular lucid moments of contemplation, like those of early afternoon when I observantly wander through the streets, each person brings me a novelty, each building teaches me something new, each placard has a message for me." (357)

While paraphrasing a fragment from Pessoa's Book of Disquiet, found fitting for his urban ramblings, Sam Renseiw encounters fresh street-art in the making and an inconspicuous collision just a moment later. Riveting bifurcated repetitions

click for: Qicktime version / Flash version

" I'm astounded whenever I finish something. Astounded and distressed. My perfectionistic instinct should inhibit me from finishing; it should inhibit me from even beginning. But I get distracted and start filming something. What I achieve is not the product of an act of will but of my will's surrender. I begin because I don't have the strength to think; I finish because I don't have the strength to quit. These videos are my cowardice. " (text 152)

"I never kept sheep," exults Sam Renseiw, "but it's as if I'd done so. My soul is like a shepherd. It knows wind and sun, walking hand in hand with the seasons, observing, and following along..." Riveted by the mesmerising, mechanic moves of three women fingering card-boards, Sam, the coward, surrenders his gaze to yet another capture of repetitive footage.
