actually the blondes are no twins;
the windows and the boxes, i presume, are, in a way, all siblings, as would the columns in that space.
so there is generic and particular, all in one frame.

Tonight I attended a middle school (~ages 11-14) beginner orchestra performance as to which a young friend of mine was performing as a cellist.

When the exercise began, the orchestra played the scales, and I wondered if the entire exercise would be tales of do re and mi.

Then the program began in earnest--three pieces. The first, a Mozart "Happy Dance" was enchanting--a very short snippet of a piece.

The amateur nature of the players
did not detract from the joy in the song.

What a difference in the two perceptions--On the one hand, a simple set of scales--interesting, but one type of experience. On the other hand, a simple arrangement of Mozart, a momentary bliss. It's not so much the "music v. non-music" distinction--I tend to love sound as sound. It was the sense of story that brims from the Mozart--not a literal story or even the imagery of a poem, but the architecture of sound, structured into a little luxury cabin that even inexperienced carpenters can build.

This film illustrates the quality of an intended artistic result. Imagine what a different film this would be if one used text and letters to describe and document the kayaks, to define and re-order them. Instead, the whispers give rise to an almost Hitchcockian sense of drama and moment--even if the moment is all in a few minutes of video.

In this way I imagine we all find our moments of Mozart, through the free (jazz) association of high art, low art, and artlessness.

I love the remix of ruggea and the magnatune artist here. Very well done!

actually, i had no idea what would be behing that door...a former student of mine - a greenland kajak enthusiast (he build two himself) invited me for a peek, saying that it would be a surprise...

indeed it was.

so: the footage is caught with absolutely fresh eyes (or hand). in the ensuing quick editing, pondering what soundtrack to use, i was intrigued by ruggea's voice, that you also used in your remixes. thus i found her amazing whispering piece (the whole world) and combined it with steven ball's fine track (hope under the weather) that he just had mentioned in his blog.

i am not sure that i intended it as an artistic venture. but, yes, it does have this strange drama to it. it was more godard's use of whispers in his films, that seemed to be the inspiration, come to think of it.

that is one of the many joys of making quick voodles: afterwards, they seem to acquire their own life(s) and echo with pataphysical repercussions.
