On Fly Tips and Voodle Povera

"The timing could not have been better, because one of the factors that led to the Italian foothold in the late '60s art scene was the death of American Minimalism and Pop art, and to some degree, of painting itself. For the first time since the Futurist movement, Italy became the center for heady, humanist experiments."

Missing a touch of minimalism, amidst a sudden appearance of a fly-tip heap right on his own front porch, Sam Renseiw remembered Brut Smog's recent visual prophecy on the topic, and felt compelled to respond with a genuine Voodle Povera. Immerse in a candid moment of junk in a walk past powerty by clicking here or on the links above. AH - Voodle Povera - very nice turn of phrase - what is great about these Fly Tips is the way the items are always unconsciously arranged - an efotless beauty indeed.

yes, indeed.

just while i was capturing the little footage, one more person appeared, quickly added some boards, and left in a hurry. i quess it was somebody of the neighbourhood, seeing his chance to disposes of some clutter, unofficially. adding some bad conscience, in a way.
so it sems that the heap in itself, builds up according to some randomness.

would be intersting to follow a fly tip's growths scientifically, say day by day.
(the janitor says there is a container coming in the week-end. it usualy also atracts all the neighbors from the side streets)
lets see... the whole topic is quiteinteresting from the arte povera perspective.

voodle povera: video genre consisting of quick, cheap footage, crudely assembled as a video doodle, hence voodle;
the voodle povera genre focuses on inconspicuous assemblages of rubbish or fly-tips in urban or land contexts, examining the alleged aesthetic potentials of the said compositions, without any moral or ethical considerations.
some video povera might include appropriate non-diegetic soundtrack overlay (s) for relief or renewed audio satisfaction.

btw: i certainly hope that the fly-tip in front of my porch is gone by the week-end ;-)

a fine video example of fly-tip birth is the "sofa" video by B > http://bshoot.blogspot.com/.
