The dervish

"Ziya Azazi searches for his roots in a dance where meditation, improvisation and acrobatics lead to genuinely astounding contemporary sufi dance which transcends a thousand-years practice. While speed tension and feelings intensify, one disappears in a space-time continuum of strange attractions."

In an attempt to capture the essence of Azazi's hypnotic dance whirling, seducing aesthetics and almost narcotic transcendence, , Sam Renseiw's short viideo essay of an exceptional performance yesterday in Copenhagen, introduces some quite surprising audio-visual cut-ups.
