On space-voodling and sheer attention

"As soon as a person appears who has something primitive about him, so that he does not say " one must accept the world as it is [...] but says " However the world is, I shall retain an originality which I do not mean to alter in accordance with the world's wishes" : At the moment these words are heard, the whole of existence is transformed. As in the fairy-tale, when the word is spoken, the castle opens after being enchanted for a hundred years, and everything comes to life: so existence turns into sheer attention."

Re-framing recent footage from two exquisite locations in Frogner/Oslo, Sam Renseiw pondered on the exuberance of the introverted ontological nature of space phenomenology. On Kafka or just passing-by

"How pathetically scanty my self-knowledge is compared with, say, my knowledge of my room. There is no such thing as observation of the inner world, as there is of the outer world...The experience of life consists of the experience which the spirit has of itself in matter and as matter, in mind and as mind, in emotion, as emotion,[in voodle and as voodle], etc."

Not really the Castle, just a row of facades and fine spaces gliding by, muses Sam Renseiw, capturing footage on a casual urban walk. Further into the gallery

"... and if this performance, amid the incessant roar of the orchestra and the ventilators, were to continue into the ever-expanding, gray future, accompanied by applause, which died down and then swelled up again, from hands which were really steam hammers, perhaps then a young visitor to the gallery might rush down the long stair case through all the levels, burst into the ring, and cry “Stop!” through the fanfares of the constantly adjusting orchestra."

Voodling might indeed resemble a stretched, Kafkaesque merry-go-round trip, muses Sam Renseiw, further assembling footage from the open-air Tivoli fair. View the dreamy collage by clicking here or on the links above. (patafilm # 461, 01'46'' 5.7MB, Quicktime/mov - streaming Flash at blip.tv)

On the limits of verbal expression

" An author is often merely an x, even when his named is signed, something quite impersonal, which addresses itself abstractly, by the aid of video, to thousands and thousands, while remaining itself unseen and unknown, living a life as hidden, as anonymous, as it is possible for a life to be, in order, presumably, not to reveal the too obvious and striking contradiction between the prodigious means of communication employed and the fact that the author is only a single individual."

Remembering a passage of a letter from Kafka to Brod, Sam Renseiw speculates on the nature of his videographic endavours, musing if they could, in their totality and in spite of their contents, just as well be understood as the misleading imagery of a seducer, written behind clouds. View the unfolding blend of clouds, chimera lamps and royal pavillion rooftop by clicking here or on the links above. (patafilm # 431, 01'47'', 8,3MB, Quicktime/mov - Flash version at blip.tv)
