On cataloguing circular motion in space

click for video : Quicktime / .m4v for iPod/iPhone / direct streaming for PC

" In order to escape the arbitrary nature of existence, one is forced to impose rigourous rules and regulations on oneself, even if these rules are in turn arbitrary. But the miracle is that this system of poetics, which might seem artificial and mechanical, produces inexhaustible freedom & wealth of invention. This is because it also coincides with a passion for cataloguing and enumerating objects, situations and conditions. "

Donning skates once again this season, Sam Renseiw muses on Perec's habit of cataloguing while moving around, having the feeling of not reaching anywhere, just desperately voodling away in some sort of futile spatial perpetuum mobile. View the circular travelling by clicking here or on the links above. (patafilm # 656, 02'11'', 16.3Mb, Quicktime/mov - other versions at Blip.tv)

Today's Bonus Lumiere Video features a battle scene captured in another time and space, yet still fresh.(Lum #173 "re-viewing potemkin", 6.3MB, 00'59'', Quicktime/mov)

It was always my intention to catalogue more last year, but as usual I failed miserably. You see, anything that "produces inexhaustible freedom & wealth of invention" always gets my vote. And so: Try Again. Fail again. Fail better.

*I'm in deep admiration of your ability to video and skate at the same time. Would be certain death for me.

My brother, who is fond of his car, got one of those digital cameras which fits on one's rear-view mirror, and allows one to view where one is going (from the front vantage of the rear view). Here we see with ease the view down, which is always a good thing to keep in mind when ice skating.

All the babies in carriages in the cold--no doubt warmly bundled if we but saw the truth.

p.s. I thought I'd mention that I have a new EP of instrumental electronica music at:

it's CC BY, so that it can be used in commercial or non-commercial video or remixes.
